Lowell ‘Kent’ Frazier began racing with QCW in 1976 and immediately proved to be a formidable competitor and skilled mechanic who serviced many local rider’s bikes while working at Campus Cyclery. During this time, he became an invaluable volunteer who worked tirelessly organizing events and serving on our board of directors. Well past his racing years and his direct association with the club he continued to provide volunteer support at local race events.
It may have been during Kent’s time working at Campus Cyclery that he had his greatest impact on the local racing community. He was always keen to recommend to new riders that they go down to Cleves and give the time trial series a try to see if they might not enjoy racing their bike. One of those very new riders was Debbie Stephan. Debbie had just moved to town for her freshman year at U.C. On her first night at Cleves she set a new women’s course record. Eighteen months later Debbie was racing for the U.S. national team at the second Women’s Tour de France.
Kent’s mechanical background eventually led to him owning his own machining business, with which he dreamed of one day sponsoring a racing team. While he never realized his dream of team sponsorship, he continued to support local riders in many other ways and is still doing so through the fund his wife established in his name. Messages or memories for Kent’s family can be shared on his memorial wall at Littleton Funeral Home.
