New 12K Race for Women and Juniors

We are again trying a Women’s race this year. It will be a 12K race starting at 6:15, open to all Women plus juniors of either gender. There will be sprints every 4 laps and both categories will be scored together as one. Women and Juniors are still permitted to compete in the 20K or 40K if they prefer.

We are hoping that this category will be better attended than it was when we tried it in 2009. We’ve consistently had requests to add this, but without the support of 15 or more riders per week the category will not return in 2013.

Steamlined Registration Paperwork

Register and Pay, or Register and Pay Later

It would be helpful to have everyone register on BikeReg.Com. We’re offering an option where you can input your information and the pay whenever you race, simply select "Entry Form ONLY" and there will be no charge. There is no coupon code requried for this option, and no charge until race night.

If you use the coupon you will have to pay weekly at Ault Park. The advantage to using the coupon is you won’t have to fill out an entry form. So if you think there is any chance you will race at least once at Ault Park you are encouraged to go ahead and fill out your information on-line. There is no penalty for entering on-line and never racing.

If prepaying your registration fees on-line you will not have to indicate the specific week(s) you will race.
So prepay for 3 weeks and ride any 3 of the 6 available weeks. No refunds for unused payments.

On-line registration is expected to be available only until the Tuesday before the first race. After that all paperwork will have to be completed at Ault Park.

Like last year you’ll only need to fill out the registration form once. Then you will sign and pay each week.

General Info
The original series was founded in 1985 by Andy Callahan the original owner of Oakley Cycles, and managed for nearly 20 years by Chief Referee Chuck Doll. In 2004 Bill Lorenz took over the series when Oakley Cycles dropped their involvement and it became a part of the QCW repertorie of events.

All riders and spectators are welcome to this friendly and competitive event. Located on a slope the 1km oval course rises and descends approximately 75 feet per lap. The surface is fairly smooth with one slight corner and one speedy downhill with a couple of serious bumps, followed by an uphill sprint with the sun at your back. It is also closed to traffic and perfect for both new and experienced racers.

Dates and Times
There are 6 Wednesday nights in the series:
May 23rd
May 30th
June 6th
June 13th
June 20th
June 27th -
series conclusion

There are 3 races each night.

  1. 12K race goes off at 6:15PM and is 12 laps. Women and Juniors with sprints every 4 laps.

  2. 20K race goes off at 7PM and is 20 laps. Men Category 4 , Men Category 4 35+ Masters, Men Category 5, Women, Juniors and 1-Day license holders.

  3. 40K race goes off at 8PM and is 40 laps. Men Category 1-3, Men Category 4 35+ Masters (ONLY), Women and Juniors.

Race Format
The weekly races and overall series are run as a points race, similar to what would normally be run on a velodrome:

  • Riders sprint every 5 laps, (every 4 laps in the 12K) with the first 4 riders being awarded points 5, 3, 2, 1.
  • The middle (except in the 12K) and final sprints are worth double points – 10, 6, 4, 2.
  • The rider with the most points at the end of the night wins that night.
  • Points are cumulative over the 6 week series; the rider with the most points after 6 weeks wins the series.
  • All riders who register are awarded 2 points weekly.
  • Ties on total points go to the rider who scored points latest in the race.
  • Any riders who lap the field will receive a 20 point bonus.
  • The highest points earner who is NOT a Men Category 1-2 rider will win a weekly prize and series prize, but they can only score points by being in the top 4 across the line on sprint laps.
  • Points sprints are announced with a bell, primes are announced with an airhorn.
