KIDS ON BIKES 2008Kids on bikes, QCW's youth and junior summer program, is back for its 10th season in 2008. Again hosted by the City of Montgomery, we are pushing back the season by 3 weeks to provide a smooth transition into cyclocross for those kids who wish to do so. Season gets underway on Monday, July 7th and continues until August 25th. Regular time is Monday, 6:45 - 8:15 in Pioneer Park. The Kids on Bikes Time Trial and Pur Tour road race are August 2nd. On a Friday afternoon (date to be named) we will make a visit to Louisville Champions Park, site of the U.S. Grand Prix of Cyclocross Derby City Cup, where we will join the Red Zone Junior team for a training sesson. Season end race and celebration takes place on September 14th when the 2008 Queen City Junior Cyclocross Trophy Series (and the Ohio Valley Cyclocross Series) will kicked off at Miami Riverview Park. In Kids on Bikes we learn and practice the nuts and bolts of bicycle racing with a focus on fun and skill development. A 200 meter grass oval is where we do a lot of our racing. Competition is low-key and always ability-matched. For 2008 KOB will have a greater emphasis on the racing discipline called cyclocross and participants will be well prepared to participate in the Fall 2008 cyclocross racing season. And because sport has great value in our human formation, we try build in some instruction on the human virtues, using the Sports Leader approach. After a successful pilot of "Little Kids on Bikes" in 2007, we are registering 2 groups this year. Youth (ages 6-9) and Juniors (ages 10-16). Juniors will be required to purchase a USA Cycling Racing License ($30), in addition to the Kids on Bikes program fee. Registration is available through the City of Montgomery at this link.
